Hi Connor
Summa Theoligica is where Aquinas lays out his 5 arguments that show, according to him, why God must exist. Summa Contra Gentiles deals more with how Aquinas sees the Christian Church as the inheritors of the New Covenant following the ressurection of Jesus. We will touch on this theme when we do the Suffering and Evil unit and I can bring in elements of Contra gentiles if you want us to!

Hi Karina
Well the answer to your question is necessarily complex but here goes!
If you believe we are only products of our biologigal parents, the simple answer is to live life to the full and to enjoy it as much as we can. There is no other apparent purpose especially if you do not believe in an after-life. So, the answer is no particular reason other than blind chance.
However, if there is a belief that we are here for more than that - then what can it be? Simply, whether we believe in God or not, we are here to look after the planet for future generations, to protect the species (human and animal) from extinction and to look after what we are given.
There is another position that would suggest that we are here to do all of the above but a religious code of ethics demands we live according to certain rules. The short answer here is - we are here to live lives that will get us a place in heaven and to avoid hell.
I know this is fairly short but you can respond if you wish.

hi sir

can you tell me why there is no real answers to the question that we ask our " re " teachers?????? e.g. why are we here. the answer that was given was cause we have some big purpose. That is no answer that is just a general wondering.

please try and give a detailed and well thought out answer not just a quick thought.

Thanks Hannah, I'm pleased you've enjoyed the course and I appreciate your feedback. The content we study means we get more out of it than just passing an exam - although passing is also important! Only Genetic Engineering to go ...
